FAQ

I THINK I’M TOO SLOW TO JOIN

No, you’re not! Most of our structured skills sessions are slow-speed with a focus on bike handling and control – so they’re a great place to start. And our fastest racers need recovery rides, usually in the form of relaxed chat laps.

We do fast laps around LVVP which are a great way to improve your power and speed. It's by cycling with people stronger than yourself we all get better. Also, this is a great traffic free environment to learn group skills and just a great laugh. Another way our members have found to get stronger and fitter is through track sessions.

I’M NOT VERY CONFIDENT

No worries – our skills sessions (link) are designed to give you more confidence on your bike. Totally new to cycling? There are free cycle skills lessons funded by most local councils, check out TfL for more info.

NO, I MEANT A DIFFERENT KIND OF ‘NOT VERY CONFIDENT’

Ahhh, we get you. Joining a group can be scary, we know. Promise our vibe is friendly! Just come along and see how it goes.

I DON’T USE CLIPLESS PEDALS

Not a problem. They’ll make a big difference to your cycling, though. Our traffic-free skills sessions are a great opportunity to get used to them.

I DON’T HAVE A TRACK BIKE

Most of our skills sessions are on road bikes anyway. If you want to try track, Herne Hill Velodrome has super friendly women’s sessions with bike hire included – for just £10. Lee Valley Velodrome also offers bike hire.

I DON’T REALLY HAVE A ROAD BIKE EITHER

That’s ok – we’ve given new members a hand in finding a decent new or second-hand bike. If you join a session at Lee Valley VeloPark’s outdoor road circuit, you can hire a bike there.

I WANT TO RIDE, BUT NOT RACE

That’s cool. Not all of our members race. There’s no pressure (although you might be surprised to discover that you’re up for it!)

I’M EXPERIENCED – CAN I GET COACHING?

We have British Cycling coaches accredited to level 2, and one has further training in track and road riding. At this level, coaching is focused on technique instruction rather than tailored, one-to-one support. But we can recommend some great coaches if you’re looking to progress further.

Who is the club for?

We welcome all women; including transgender, intersex, and cis, as well as trans-men and non-binary people.
